‘A comedy maestro… the pace, emphasis and rhythm of his delivery is impeccable. A rock-solid act guaranteed to entertain’ – City Life
A Manchester comedy legend as seen in ‘Phoenix Nights’, ‘That Peter Kay Thing’, ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, ‘Cold Feet’ and the Ken Loach film ‘Looking For Eric’. Described by Metro as ‘an act everyone deserves to see at least once’, sublime storyteller Smug is a headline act all over Britain able to provoke peals of laughter via a quirky colloquialism or a nonplussed expression. He’s also had a minor chart hit with ‘Meat Pie Sausage Roll’ a song that made it to the heady heights of number 67 in June 1998. Quite the Renaissance man.
‘Beautifully crafted one-liners, witty wordplay and deadpan delivery’ – bbc.co.uk
‘Absolute gold-plated bankers, brilliantly inspired lines even the most experienced punslinger would be proud of’ – chortle.co.uk
Since starting stand-up in 2009, Chris’s sharply written gags, assured stage presence and commanding delivery have established him as one of the best up-and-coming one-liner comics on the circuit. Intelligent wordplay and deliciously dark jokes nestle amongst a set rich with puns and oblique observations, all coupled with a talent for improvisation and physical comedy honed from three years with Edinburgh Festival favourites The Oxford Imps (Sell-Out Show 2009, **** – Fest, ThreeWeeks, Hairline). He was a finalist in both the BBC New Comedy Award and So You Think You’re Funny competitions and was nominated for Leicester Comedy Festival Comedian of the year 2012. He was also voted in Dave’s Top 10 jokes of the Edinburgh Festival 2012. His charm, combined with unyielding puns make him a ruthlessly funny act. He tacks deftly between light and dark material, placing you in a playpen of comfort and then squashing the other babies. He luxuriates in awkward silence with skill, making you cling to his speech and thudding his punch lines deeper. The climax of the show came in his remarkable freestyle rap, spitting astute lyrics on the spot with ease. All in all, quite the multi-faceted comedic attraction.

‘Hilarious ad-libs and wicked one-liners from an infectiously funny performer’ – The List

Jongleurs/Metro “Stand & Deliver” Award winner and former BBC New Comedy Award Runner-up he is a regular contributor to Radio 2′s “The Arthur Smith Lectures”.
