COMEDY COMES TO MANSFIELD LIBRARY!
For the opening night we have a veritable pearler of a line-up featuring Rob Rouse a very familiar face to any discerning comedy fan who has a shedload of TV credits and Alfie Moore, the only Policeman-turned-stand-up in the UK who is due to embark on his first solo national theatre tour later in the year. So catch him now whilst we can still afford him. Also appearing is Nick Parry, a wonderful wordsmith and twisted gagster who won the Ribticklers Comedy Award at Worksop Library last year in his first ever gig, the smart-mouthed clever trousers. Wednesday 14th March – ‘Him off the Telly’ comedy special
COMPERE – ANTHONY J BROWN
‘Comedy guaranteed to lighten even the darkest of moods. Missing this show means missing something wonderful’ – Edinburgh Evening News
With more energy than a hyperactive six-year-old sucking on a lollipop while bouncing on a spacehopper, Rob has a veritable shed-load of TV credits including ’8 Out Of 10 Cats’, ‘Dave’s One Night Stand’, ‘Celebrity Juice’, ‘The Friday Night Project’, ‘Live At The Comedy Store’. ‘Edinburgh And Beyond’ and ‘Spoons’. He is a veteran of several critically acclaimed Edinburgh Festival shows and two sold out national theatre tours, firmly establishing him as one of comedy’s most lively, loveable and dynamic performers.
Described by Rhod Gilbert as “fascinating and funny” and recently seen on TV screens on ITV1′s stand-up competition ‘Show Me The Funny’, Alfie is an original and distinctive comedian with his niche area as a serving police sergeant. He came slightly later to comedy and brings a wealth of insights and comedy moments from his eighteen years on the beat, where a keen sense of humour has been the key to his success and survival.
Alfie has also written and performed his own one-man show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for two consecutive years where they have each run for the full 22 nights to great critical notices. He has also supported Sarah Millican, Russell Kane and Milton Jones on their national comedy tours.
Alfie has a relaxed observational comedic style, which lends itself to witty, and sometimes gritty, anecdotes based on everyday modern policing, with belly laughs a-plenty.
‘He showed significant promise, stalking the stage in a charcoal suit and delivering finely honed, caustic one-liners with a panache many a comedy circuit regular would be eager to emulate. We’ve definitely not heard the last of him’ – Huddersfield Examiner
Ribticklers Comedy Award Winner 2011
RESIDENT COMPERE – ANTHONY J BROWN
‘Hilarious ad-libs and wicked one-liners from an infectiously funny performer’ – The List
‘A truly unique performer…superb’ – Reece Shearsmith
(‘The League Of Gentlemen’)
Clad in a sartorially edifying manner, like a dapper and dandy funeral director, Anthony cuts a unique on-stage presence with humour blacker than a raven that’s slammed it’s claw in a coffin lid. And not the merest hint of profanity. The overall effect is both perversely hypnotic and wholly original, leaving the audience zealously hanging on to every syllable like turncoat lemmings on a rockface. Jongleurs/Metro “Stand & Deliver” Award winner and former BBC New Comedy Award Runner-up he is a regular contributor to
Radio 2′s “The Arthur Smith Lectures”. As seen on ‘The Stand Up Show’ and ‘Phoenix Nights’.
